Hazel's surgery is scheduled for Monday, February 8, 2010. Surgery should begin roughly at 7:30am, however Hazel will have to check in at 5:30am to be prepped.
The surgery is scheduled to last approximately 9 hours. The surgeon, Dr. "M" will have two assistants as well as a pulmonary (lung) team and an anesthesiology team present the entire time. She will be intubated (put on the ventilator) for the surgery and should continue on the ventilator for 12 hours post-surgery, thus the need for the pulmonary team.
She will be in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) for the first 36-48 hours as those are the most crucial. She will remain in the hospital for the first week after the surgery, then be discharged and need to have weekly out-patient rehab.
So far, that's the general idea of all that we know. Please feel free to ask questions in the comment section or leave Hazel a note or two of encouragement.

Hi Hazel! I enjoyed reading the scripture... God does remain the strength of your heart! I'm waiting in Texas for you to come help me decorate... need your expert advice on drapes :-) Will post again soon and know that I'm praying for you and love you! Tracy
Hazel;
I finally logged in to the blog. Jessica did a great job setting it up.
You should see the new house built down the street from the old Perkins house on Matthews. Or maybe it's where the house was?
Everyone in my family is doing well. Nicholas has a MRI scheduled next month to determine if he's ready for surgery on the Arnold-Kiari Malformation. Otherwise, he's one happy baby. Can you believe 5 months old? Will send you a picture.
